NHL Spotlight: 5 Players with the Most Points in Panthers History
While the Florida Panthers have never won the Stanley Cup and only been to the playoffs nine times in their 30-year history, the team has enjoyed some playoff success over the years. They reached the Stanley Cup Final in just their third season in 1995-96 and did so again in 2022-23. Moreover, the team has had a winning record in eight of the last nine seasons and has one of the best and deepest rosters in the league in 2023-24.
Aleksander Barkov, the Panthers' captain and one of the best two-way forwards in the NHL, anchors the talented Panthers team this season. At just 28 years old, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound center from Tampere, Finland is already the franchise's all-time leading scorer.
Below is a closer look at Barkov and the four other leading scorers in Panthers history.
Aleksander Barkov
Selected second overall by the Panthers in the 2013 NHL Draft, Barkov is in his 11th season with the team and had 46 points through the first 40 games of the 2023-24 season, giving him 677 career points (254 goals, 423 assists) in 704 regular season games. He became the Panthers' all-time leader in points (614) on March 20, 2023, when he recorded an assist on a second-period goal in Florida's 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings. He is also the franchise leader in goals and surpassed former teammate Jonathan Huberdeau for the most assists in team history during the 2023-24 season.
Prior to the 2023-24 season, Barkov scored at least 20 goals in eight consecutive seasons, including a career-best 39 in the 2021-22 season. He set a career high in points with 96 in 2018-19 and won the Lady Byng Trophy that year. He won the Selke Trophy in 2020-21 as the best defensive forward in the league. He was named Florida's captain in 2018 and is a two-time All-Star. Assuming he isn't traded to another team in the near future, Barkov has a chance to further cement his status as Florida's all-time leading scorer as he's under contract with the team until 2030.
Jonathan Huberdeau
Huberdeau, a 30-year-old left winger from Quebec, Canada, was drafted third overall by the Panthers in the 2011 NHL Draft and became the team's all-time leading scorer with 420 points in January 2020 after recording two points in an 8-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. He recorded 613 points (198 goals, 415 assists) in 671 career regular season games with the Panthers before being dealt to the Calgary Flames, along with MacKenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt, and a 2025 first-round pick, in July 2022 for Matthew Tkachuk and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Huberdeau made an immediate impact with the Panthers, winning the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie in 2012-13. With the exception of an injury-shortened season in 2016-17, he scored at least 20 goals every season from 2015-16 to 2021-22 and set the franchise record for points (115) in a single season in the latter year. He also led the league in assists (85) and finished fifth in Hart Trophy voting.
Olli Jokinen
The Panthers third all-time leading scorer with 419 (188 goals, 231 assists) points in 567 career regular season games, Olli Jokinen played seven seasons with Florida from 2000-01 to 2007-08. The Finnish center recorded a career-best 91 points with the team in 2006-07.
The Los Angeles Kings selected Jokinen with the third overall pick in the 1997 NHL Draft, but traded him two years later to the New York Islanders in a deal involving Ziggy Palffy and Bryan Smolinski. The Islanders traded him and Roberto Luongo to the Panthers the following season for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha in one of the most lopsided trades in NHL history. Jokinen went on to become one of Florida's best-ever forwards and Luongo, who had his number retired by the Panthers in 2022, has the most wins (230) in franchise history.
Jokinen played with seven other teams, including the Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames. He retired following the 2014-15 season.
Stephen Weiss
A 40-year-old native of Toronto, Canada, Stephen Weiss recorded 394 points (145 goals, 249 assists) in 654 career regular season games with the Panthers. Selected by Florida fourth overall in the 2001 NHL Draft, he debuted with the team as a 19-year-old in 2001-02 and spent 11 seasons in Florida, registering a career-best 61 points in 2008-09. He played two seasons with the Red Wings before retiring following the 2014-15 season.
Scott Mellanby
A key player for the Panthers during its Stanley Cup Final run in 1996, Scott Mellanby ranks fifth all-time in franchise history with 354 points (157 goals, 197 assists). An original member of the Panthers, he was chosen by the team from the Edmonton Oilers in the 1993 expansion draft and recorded a career-best 70 points with the team in 1995-96. He had nine points in 22 playoff games that year.
A 21-year veteran, Mellanby also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, and Atlanta Thrashers.
